A new approach

to health care

Nova Scotia is changing the way we deliver health care in this province. It’s better for patients—and physicians.

This new approach balances your ability to care for your patients with your lifestyle, and your desire to advance your career.

  1. Collaborative Emergency Centres (CECs) give patients improved access to quality care delivered by a team of health-care professionals. This highly supportive model allows you to focus more on primary care. Nurses handle overnight emergency care, with links to paramedics, an on-call physician, and other hospitals.
  2. Our 811 line gives patients 24/7 access to a registered nurse, who gives them advice on next steps based on their symptoms.
  3. Our 911 emergency service is considered to be one of the best in the country; highly trained paramedics respond with emergency medical care and take patients to the right hospital for the right care.
